My Reflections from a Wedding

Tonight I did an outdoor wedding in Phoenix. It’s not unusual for the wedding to be outdoors and at this time of year I am doing quite a few of them. This wedding was very nice and elegant. It was at a house, sitting on acres so there was plenty of room for 150 guests, tables in the back, dance floor and stage for band. The wedding party probably had 30 people not counting the dog who “walked” down the aisle for a treat.
As I stood up there watching all these family members and bridal party take their places, I looked around at the beauty of the celebration and festivities. I started to think about Christ and his bride, the church. I started to imagine Christ on his throne sitting up where I was standing. And instead of dogs and little kids running down the aisle screaming, “the bride is coming, the bride is coming” the whole church of Christ was “coming down the aisle”.
And while it was pretty impressive to see this bride ride in with her dad on a horse and carriage, how much more beautiful will it be for the whole, universal church, for the first time ever, gather together. And there before us all is Christ the head of the church and we his bride. What an incredible beautiful, celebration that will be.
The day we are united face to face with our groom, the lover of our souls.
The day we will see so much more, how vast his great love is for us.
The day we can dance, sing & laugh together.
The day we will be forever together, loving the one who first loved us. Truly, words can’t describe it.
But today I was able to glimpse it, even if it was in the smallest of ways.
“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5V25-27,32
