i was looking at google maps trying to find a place i've never been to before (apparently there are lots of places i've never been to).  it's on a stretch of apache blvd in tempe and may be over 60 yrs old.  i know i've driven by it 100 times but i couldn't picture it from the ground, so i went with the satellite view on google.

i love those views - from above, zooming in and out.  it's a whole new perspective.  i try to picture what the area must be like, to be on the ground, walking thru that space, or yard, or house (with permission, of course).  what's the character of the area?  the feel?  texture? etc?

yet it's only 2 dimensional.  there's length, there's breadth, and that's it (x-coordinate and y-coordinate for those of you who are repeating 9th grade math with your kids!)  there's so much i have to fill in on my own - to infer or surmise, imagine.  i see green things, we'll call them plants, that appear to be overlapping each other, yet at ground level, where a new dimension is available, they may be simply of various heights, even spacious in their positioning.

it's like the difference of reading about, studying, even knowing the Kingdom

as opposed to experiencing it

walking in it

living it
